What background was most represented in Monroe County schools in 2019-2020 school year?

Of the 4,943 students enrolled in Monroe County schools in 2019-2020, 60.8% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Monroe County students.

This is a 0.7% increase over the previous school year.

Hatley High School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Monroe County schools showed 60.8% students were White, 36.2% were Black or African American, 0.7% were Two or More Races and 0.5% were Hispanic or Latino.

There are 10 schools in Monroe County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
