Cost of college went up for all students at Northeast Mississippi Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 11.3 percent for 2018-19 at Northeast Mississippi Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Mississippi residents paid $3,596 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $364 more than the $3,232 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 79 percent more than residents this year, or $6,436. Their price tag grew 8.5 percent from $5,932 in 2017-18.

About 97 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Mississippi residents. And about 3 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 99 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,056 students received grants or scholarships totaling $4.3 million and 251 students took out student loans totaling more than $1 million.

Including all undergraduates (3,512), 2,679 students used grants or scholarships totaling $13.6 million, and 718 students took out $1.8 million in federal student loans.
