What background was most represented in Aberdeen School District schools in 2021-22 school year?

Black students made up 96.4% of the 1,043 students enrolled in Aberdeen School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 2.6% decrease from the previous school year.

Belle Shivers Middle School had the highest enrollment in the district with 416 students.

A snapshot of Aberdeen School District schools showed 96.4% of students were Black and 3.6% were multiracial.

Aberdeen School District roughly covers three schools within Monroe County and has a main office in Aberdeen.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
