Pathways classes to begin soon at ICC-Belden

Registration is underway for several pathways classes that will begin soon at Itawamba Community College.

They include Residential Wiring, Small Engine Repair Technician and Introduction to Welding and Cutting.

Residential Wiring meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Feb. 7-Mar. 9. In the hands-on class, participants will learn how to use a meter properly; change and update receptacles; distinguish between different types of switches; switch replacement; locate loose or bad connections; and troubleshooting techniques. It is designed for those who are interested in becoming an electrician’s assistant or want to learn to do very basic electrical wiring for their own use.

Small Engine Repair Technician meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Feb. 7-Apr. 6. Upon successful completion of the 16-session program, students will be prepared for an entry-level technician position at an existing small engine repair shop or to open their own related business. Successful students will receive information about how to test for the nationally-recognized technician certification examination. Included are how to perform basic maintenance on small engines; the recoil system’s function, maintenance and repair and how to disassemble and rebuild small engines.

Introduction to Welding and Cutting will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Jan. 31-Mar. 2. This class is designed to give the student entry-level skills in welding and cutting to prepare them for very basic GMAW and SMAW welding operations as well as oxyfuel cutting operations.

The classes meet at the ICC Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).

Scholarships may be available for those who qualify.

Three pathway programs to begin soon at ICC-Belden

            Registration is underway for three pathway programs, which will begin soon at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             They include Certified Nursing Assistant, Food Service Pathway and Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification.             Certified Nursing Assistant will meet Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 1-17, from 5-9 p.m. The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful completion of the program and the examination, nursing assistants can find employment with nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Becoming a CNA provides an excellent foundation for those who want to advance in the nursing profession.             Food Service Pathway will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. from Aug. 31-Sept. 25. The class includes proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices and culinary techniques. Students will receive hands-on instruction, internships with local restaurants and an opportunity to build their résumé, enhance their interview skills and attain ServeSafe® certification and ServeSafe® Alcohol certification. Pathway programs to begin soon at ICC-Belden

Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for several pathway programs that are scheduled to begin soon. They include SHRM-Certified Professional Exam Prep Course, Jan. 28; Certified Nursing Assistant, Feb. 1; and Human Resources Assistant, Feb. 18. The SHRM-Certified Professional Exam Prep Course will meet Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. The program is designed for current HR professionals who would like to advance their careers by earning the nationally-recognized SHRM-CP credential to be recognized as industry experts and viewed as valuable assets to their organization. The curriculum used in this course is the Society for Human Resource Management 2020 Learning System, which provides an in-depth overview of the knowledge and industry expertise needed to sit for and pass the SHRM-CP certification exam. Key topics include behavioral competencies and technical knowledge. ICC offers intersession classes beginning Aug. 2

Itawamba Community College is offering an opportunity for students to enroll in four traditional classes during an intersession, which begins Aug. 2 and ends with final examinations on Aug. 13, prior to the beginning of the 2021 fall semester.             The schedule includes English Composition I, American Literature I, College Life and Public Speaking I. All classes meet on a Monday through Friday schedule at the Fulton Campus.             “Traditionally, ICC has offered classes during an intersession between the conclusion of the spring semester and the beginning of the summer semester,” said Dr. Melissa Haab, vice president of enrollment services. “These classes will enable students to enroll and complete traditional academic classes that are requirements for most associate degree programs in a compacted format. They are face-to-face classes that will enable interaction between students and faculty in a classroom setting where the Mississippi State Department of Health and Center for Disease Control COVID guidelines are followed. ”             To register, email eadviser@iccms.edu, and for more information, admissions@iccms.edu.

            Registration is underway for several pathways classes that will begin in January at Itawamba Community College.             They include Business Office Specialist, Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT Basic, Food Service, Enhanced Forklift Operator, Google IT Support Certificate, Medical Administrative Assistant, Pharmacy Technician and Phlebotomy Technician.             Business Office Specialist will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-9:30 p.m., Jan. 11-May 5. It is designed for students to develop basic office, communication and computer technology skills. Through intensive lab instruction, students will have the opportunity to attain an Intuit Quickbooks® certification and receive training and instruction to prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist certification for Microsoft Excel and Word. Additional instruction and training include performance of technical office tasks, basic math, fundamentals of bookkeeping and human resource management.             Certified Nursing Assistant will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m., Jan. 10-Mar. 16.
