On the 8th day of May, 2022, Lee County Deputies responded to 1258 County Road 931 (Dollar General) for a reported robbery attempt. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a white male approached the cash register and presented a note demanding money and threatening harm if his demands were not met. The cashier rushed to the back of the store and called 911. The male suspect then exited the store. During the investigation, it was learned that the suspect left the scene in a white, two door sedan once exiting the store.
Approximately 2 hours after the incident, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle meeting the description of the suspect vehicle. The driver was identified as Jacob Hawkins. Hawkins was taken into custody without incident.
