Lee County, MS Schools - Private John Allen National Fish Hatchery

Lee County CTE students from Agriculture & Natural Resources, Unmanned Aerial Systems, and Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning visited the Private John Allen National Fish Hatchery this week.  Students helped seine a pond for Alligator Gar, then assisted in weighing and tagging them.

The Private John Allen National Fish Hatchery in Tupelo raises 12 different species, which includes: Alligator Gar, Lake Sturgeon, Gulf Coast Striped Bass, Gulf Coast Walleye, Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, Channel Catfish, Yazoo Darter, Pearl Darter, Piebald Madtom, and Frecklebelly Madtom. 

The hatchery is dedicated to restoring these threatened, endangered, at-risk, and recreational fish species to achieve self-sustaining populations in the wild and stocking recreational fish across the region and even across the country.
