Monroe County Sheriff’s Investigators have charged Cedrick Jones of Kemper County with 2 counts of Making Terrorist Threats.
Jones was arrested near Hamilton School this morning at the intersection of Collins Lane and Hamilton Rd after Deputies were alerted by the School Resource Officer that he and another school official had received threats by phone. Jones stated that he was on his way to the school to carry out those threats.
Responding Deputies worked with Hamilton’s SRO to secure the school entrances and make contact with Jones before he made it onto campus.
Jones is currently awaiting bond at MCSO.
“Everyone involved did a great job this morning communicating and dealing with this potentially dangerous situation.
The campus was secured and the suspect was in custody in a matter of minutes. Deputies, school officials, and 911 communications did exactly what they were supposed to do in this type of scenario, resulting in a safe outcome for all involved.
Any threat made toward our schools or school officials will be taken seriously. Each of these charges carry up to 10 years in prison.”
