From Sheriff Johnson
Today the Lee County Sheriff’s Department was represented by Sgt. Michael Patterson and Deputy Randy Box at a round table discussion hosted by Jackson State University Metro Jackson Community Coalition. This meeting was to get officer input and ideas on DUI prevention.
Some areas touched on were current DUI laws and their penalties and
opinions of non adjudication were heard from all agencies that attended, along with the ignition interlock system.
Public Service Announcements through TV, Radio and social media were discussed to help prevent drunk or impaired driving.
The penalty for these crimes was a topic for the most part discussing the laws that were too lenient. The courts were discussed about how they carried out the dispositions and sentencing.
This was a very informative meeting and we appreciation Jackson State University Metro Jackson Community Coalition for allowing our deputies to be part of this important issue.
