BMCU Senior Receives An Invitation To The Unified Professional Theatre Auditions

Miss.—Caley Sims, senior speech and theatre major, has been invited to attend the Unified Professional Theatre Auditions (UPTA) in Memphis, Tenn., Feb. 3-4, 2023. Sims graduates this May from Blue Mountain Christian University, and UPTAs provide the opportunity for pre-professional actors, professional actors, and theatrical designers to audition and interview for positions with 75 theatre companies from across the United States. Some of the companies attending this year’s auditions include Dollywood Parks & Resorts, Disney Live Entertainment, Silver Dollar City, and several Shakespeare and children’s theatres.

This past fall, Sims submitted a 90-second filmed audition that included an acting monologue, a performance of a song, and an application. A UPTA panel of 50 theatre representatives blindly adjudicated her audition submission five times before she was accepted to audition in person this year.

“I am absolutely so grateful and thank Jesus for this opportunity,” Sims said.

UPTA’s will be held at the Playhouse on the Square and the Sheraton Memphis Downtown in Memphis, Tenn. The weekend audition process includes acting, singing, and dancing, followed by callbacks.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for graduating Speech & Theatre majors to start their career,” stated Assistant Professor of Speech & Theatre Christi Mitchell. “We worked really hard this past fall to prepare Caley for this type of opportunity, and I know she will represent Blue Mountain Christian University well.”
