2021-22 School Year: What were the backgrounds of Benton County School District students?

White students made up 51% of the 917 students enrolled in Benton County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 2.9% increase over the previous school year.

Hickory Flat Attendance Center had the highest enrollment in the district with 467 students.

A snapshot of Benton County School District schools showed 51% of students were white, 40.7% were Black, 4.3% were multiracial, and 3.3% Hispanic.

Benton County School District roughly covers three schools within Benton County and has a main office in Ashland.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
